Karavitakis Kompsos White
Kompsos means elegant in Greek, and this blend’s elegance is the inspiration for it’s name. The base for this wine is Vidiano variety (40%). The grapes are sourced from 350 meters altitude vineyards, the per- fect place for expressive and stone fruit flavored Vidiano. Another 30% of Assyrtiko is added to enhance accidity, bring the mineral aspect and add a complex touch in aromas. The last 30% is Malvasia Aromatica, one of the most aromatic Cretan varieties which contributes to Jas- mine and lime scents together with mind blowing freshness. Try it with clams, chicken, grilled fish or sea- food and you will find the perfect pairing for your meal.
About the vintage: 2023 was a good vintage. Winter started beautifully with an amazing amount of rain for Cretan standards. Budding was slightly delayed but this was just about 10 days. Heat started normaly for the standards of Crete without extreme events. Buding and verizon was on time. Late july was a bit warm so vines rushed a bit harvesting started in some vineyards a bit early. This required a lot of work in the winery and also plenty of care for the vineyards. In general this vintage was rather rewarding with good quality fruit, and with a few sorting hands the result was very terroir driven and varietal expression was very intense
Nikos Karavitakis Winemaker Notes: Kompsos White, a wine which was blended by Vidiano – Assyrtiko and Malvasia. A structured, pleasant and crisp white wine with layers of fresh lemon, a hint of Jasmine and nuances of peach and asparagus. A bit of salinity is present and lingu- ering acidity makes this white an instant favorite.
